High doses of vitamin C may reduce the beneficial increase in HDL from niacin or affect statin efficacy. Large doses of vitamin C (usually >1 g/day) might decrease the effectiveness of blood thinners. e.g warfarin, aspirins. Vitamin C can increase estrogen levels in the blood. High-dose vitamin C may increase oxalate levels, potentially increasing the risk of kidney stones. Vitamin C can increase iron absorption, which is harmful in people with iron overload disorders. Vitamin C enhances absorption — often beneficial, but could be problematic in iron overload conditions. Excessive vitamin C may lower copper levels over time.
